John I. Lake, 91, of Dugger, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Washington Nursing Center in Washington, Indiana.
He was born on January 13, 1928 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Walter Lake and Edla M Caldwell. John was a member of The Bible Baptist Church in Dugger. He served in the Navy during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Billy Lake, and brother William Lake.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte Lake, daughters Jacklyn R Flannigan (Matt) of Noblesville, Indiana, Leneigha Downs (Charles) of Hawaii, Alice Couden (Jim) of Arcadia, Indiana, stepson Denzil Zimmerman Jr. of Palestine, Illinois, stepdaughters, Charlena Zimmerman (Phillip York) of Flat Rock, Illinois, Anna Dunlap (Larry) of Hutsonville, Illinois, Valeria Zimmerman of Robinson, Illinois, five grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and ten step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 26, 2019, at Newkirk’s Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Talpas and Chaplain Kerry "Sky Pilot" Ascher officiating. Interment will follow in Dugger Cemetery located in Dugger, Indiana with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn, Hymera Legion Posts and the Sullivan VFW Post. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at Newkirk’s Funeral Home.
