Jeffrey Stephen Smith

Jeffrey Stephen Smith, 67 of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023. He was born July 15, 1955 in Sullivan, IN to Max and Audrey June (Chambers) Smith. A Veteran of the U.S. Marines, Jeff proudly served our Country and was a member of the American Legion Post 502 of South Haven. He provided for his family by working for over 40 years at Bethlehem/Mittal Steel. An avid sports fan, Jeff cheered for all Chicago sports teams but especially the Cubs and the Bears. He was ecstatic to finally see the Cubs win the world series in 2016. In his spare time Jeff enjoyed riding his Harley and cracking jokes making those around him laugh. But most of all, Jeff was happiest spending time with his beloved family.
On July 7, 2022 Jeffrey married his loving wife, Daryl (Davis) Smith who survives along with his children, Christina Smith, Jeffrey Smith, and Tosha (Bryan) Herring; grandchildren, Eli, Garrett, Larissa, Ryan, Jeffrey, Rebecca, Ethan, Lily, Jayden, Jeremiah, Kyla, and Carly; siblings, Carrie (Steve) Williams and Doug Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; family friend, Richard; and his “fourth child,” his dog, Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Michael, Tony, Russell, Eugene, and Max Smith.
A memorial gathering will be held on May 30th from 3:00-5:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with a Memorial Service beginning at 5:00 PM. In honor of Jeff’s enthusiasm for the Cubs, please feel free to dress in Cubs attire if possible to the memorial. A family graveside military service will be held at Woodward Cemetery in Dugger, Indiana on June 1st at 3pm.
