Allen C. Hale

December 29, 1932 ~ June 5, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Obituary

Allen C. Hale, PhD, died June 5 2023 in Seattle from injuries suffered in a fall.

Allen was born December 29, 1932 in Dover, NJ, the son of George C. Hale, PhD and Mary Allen Raines Hale.  He graduated from Cornell University 1954, with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.

Allen had a 26-year career with Scott Paper, moving from Everett, WA to Philadelphia where he continued as a Chief Project Engineer until 1982. Then he changed gears, moving into counseling psychology, got his MEd at Temple University, interned at Iowa State, and proudly received his PhD from Temple in 1989. He joined the staff of the Texas Woman’s University, as the only counseling psychologist for the University’s two Dallas campuses.

In 1994, the University of Central Florida hired him as a staff psychologist.  He retired from UCF in 1998 and settled in Lake Mary, FL with his older brother George, Jr.

In 2013, Allen relocated to the Bayview Retirement Community in Seattle, WA.

Allen was an avid sailor, progressively owning three sailboats. During the 1970’s, Allen was active in the Boy Scouts serving as Skipper to a high school Sea Explorer unit in Springfield, Delaware County, PA.  This was one of the first Explorer units nationally to go co-ed.  He also organized several BSA regional sailing regattas.  Allen led the development of multiple Career Exploring units at Scott Paper’s corporate headquarters in Philadelphia.  These units were offered annually to over 1,000 local area high school students.  Allen had an incredible impact through this work. As one of his Sea Scouts recalled 40 years later, “he never gave us the answers, rather he led us to finding answers and solving problems on our own. I truly don't know where his patience came from, but it was in biblical proportions.”

Allen Hale was predeceased by his older brother George in 2012. He is survived by the many friends whose lives he touched. He will be buried at the family gravesite at the Dugger Cemetery in Dugger, IN.
