Archie Cox, 102, of Pleasantville, Indiana went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2015. Archie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and member of the Pleasantville community. He was born in Sullivan County Indiana on October 14, 1913, graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1931, and lived all of his life in Jefferson Township. Archie married the love of his life, Vivian Hutchison Cox on September 3, 1935 and they were blessed to spend 71 years together.
Archie was a coal miner for 43 years and was a retiree of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed fishing, playing fiddle music, playing cards, helping others in the Pleasantville community, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Archie was a friend to all who knew him, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Archie was devoted to providing the best for his children and grandchildren, and his love and support will carry on forever in the wonderful memories in their hearts.
Archie was a member and trustee of the Pleasantville United Methodist Church, and former member of the Jefferson Township Advisory Board. Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; his parents, Hinkle and Lena Bedwell Cox; a sister, Gaynell Cox; and a son-in-law, George (Buck) McCullough. Survivors include his daughters, Brenda (Alan) Smith, Gayle McCullough, Cheryl (Dale) Long, and a dedicated friend and caregiver, Hazel Todd. His grandchildren are Lynn (Dave) Guy, Ryan Smith, Anjuli Smith, Ana Thompson, Jay (Amanda) Smith, Dale Long Jr., Lara Long, and Kasy Long. His great-grandchildren are Skylar and Addy Thompson; Brady, Peyton, and Cooper Smith; Brentley Smith Boney; Halle Smith; and Gracie Alsman.
