Jim Benefiel was born August 1, 1929 and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Jim’s parents were Dewey and Thelma Benefiel. After graduation Jim married Mary Gertrude Robertson and they moved to Texas and California for Jim to serve in the U.S. Army. Upon release from the Army, Jim accepted a position with Radio Equipment Company in Indianapolis. It was during that time that Jim and Gertrude surrendered their life to the Lord. His job relocated him to Vincennes, Indiana and they settled in the Bucktown/Pleasantville area. In Carlisle 1958 Jim and Gertrude started a church in their home that became Temple Baptist Church in Carlisle. Jim went on to work many years in mines, as director of Faith Christian School in Carlisle, and enjoyed being Interim Pastor several times at his church. Jim and Gertrude led many church services at nursing homes and led a ministry to senior citizens in their later years. In recent years Jim attended Central Baptist Church where he led singing.
Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Chris Benefiel of Sullivan and their children Haley; Justin and his wife Katie, and their sons Hudson and Parker; and Aaron; and his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Anita Benefiel of Greenwood and their daughter, Emma.
Preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary Gertrude Benefiel.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 30, 2021 at Newkirk’s Funeral Home with Pastor David Simpson, Pastor David Armstrong and Pastor Justin Benefiel. Interment will follow in Woodward Cemetery located in Dugger, Indiana. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Newkirk’s Funeral Home in Dugger, Indiana.
