John Joe Secrest

John Joe Secrest went to meet Jesus on Friday, November 5, 2021. He was surrounded by his family when he passed peacefully from this life.

            John was born in Sullivan Co., IN on July 18, 1926 the son of Robert Elzo Secrest and Martha (Pearison) Secrest.

            He entered the Army when he was 17 years old to serve his country in WWII and saw several major battles. When he returned to his home he married the love of his life, Wanda Lea Combs and they were married 60 years before she preceded him in death. He was also a member of the South Linton Church of God.

            John was also preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sisters, 3 brothers, Herbert, Henry, and Frank Secrest, 2 sister, Chloe (Secrest) Gambill, and Mary (Secrest) Chanley, along with one grandson, Michael Parsons.

            He is survived by one brother, Raymond Secrest (Shirley) of Matoon, IL, two sons, John David Secrest (Nellie) of Jasonville, IN, Curtis Secrest (Debbie) of Bloomfield, IN., two daughters, Cheryl (Secrest) Moss (Roger) of Dugger, IN, Elaine Secrest of Linton, IN, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Newkirk’s Funeral Home in Dugger, IN with Rev. Phillip Bilyeu officiating. Burial in the Pleastant Grove Cemetery near Lyons, IN. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until services Tuesday.
