Nancy Kay Gustafson, 78, passed away Wednesday, October 8th, at Glenbrook Rehab and Nursing Care in Fort Wayne, IN., where she had resided for over two years. Originally from Fort Wayne, Nancy and her companion, Donna Burchard, traveled the country extensively living in California, Montana, and Wisconsin. They relocated back to Indiana in the 1990’s. Nancy was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and became a nurse later in life after working many years as head of housekeeping in several hospitals throughout the country. Nancy and Donna raised and trained Collies for show throughout the years competing nationally and winning multiple awards and ribbons. Nancy was an avid fisherman and loved telling stories of their fishing adventures while living on the Sacramento River. Surviving are her sister Cathy (Bill) Graney of Fort Wayne; brothers Steve (Laura) Gustafson of Fort Wayne and John Gustafson of Ohio and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents John and Mildred (Crabill) Gustafson; sisters Joan, Soundra and infant Mary; as well as her longtime companion Donna Burchard. The Gustafson family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Glenbrook for their excellent care of Nancy during her residence there. Graveside service 2:00 PM Monday, October 13, 2014 at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Dugger, IN. Arrangements were entrusted to Newkirk’s Funeral Home.
