Velda Jean (Sheffler) Land

Velda Jean Land, 81, of Dugger, IN passed away at her residence Friday, July 13, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born in Sullivan County, IN October 4, 1936 the daughter of Glenn R. Sheffler and Lotus Turpen Sheffler.

            Velda was formerly employed at Stringer Welding and Machine Shop in Dugger, also WD’s Restaurant in Dugger. She loved taking care of her family and children, was a fabulous baker, and enjoyed being outdoors and gardening.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, also her husband, Jerry Lee Land in 2004, two brothers, Norman Sheffler and Jerry Sheffler, a grandson,  Shade Collins, also a daughter in-law Melissa Land.

            Survivors include two sons, Sam Land and (Jeannine) of Camby, IN, Tony Land of Sullivan, IN, two daughters, Twila Collins and (Tom) of Dugger, IN, Shannon Land-Vallad (Jason) of Dugger, IN, Sweetie Pie, Chloe Land of Sullivan, IN, four brothers, Charles Sheffler (Sammy Sue) of Sullivan, IN, Paul Sheffler (Mary) of Greene County, IN, Glenn “Butch” Sheffler of Linton, IN, Tim Sheffler (Susan) of Linton, IN, one sister, Mary Ann Brown, of Odon, IN, eleven grandchildren, Nicolette, Justin, Kaleb, Lasondra, Brannan, Franchesca, Dalton, Dawson, Lori, Josh, Teresa, and nine great grandchildren, Alex, Annabelle, Jasper, Jalee, Jayla, Jordis, Jerica, Dracie and Mattie.

            Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Newkirk’s Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Dyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Dugger Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00PM.
