Tony Ray Rode, 67 of Dugger, IN passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:22 AM at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He fought a long battle with heart disease and received a heart transplant on June 15, 2016.
Tony was born on June 9, 1949 in Linton, IN. the son of Frank Rode and Lura Ball Rode. Tony was a 1967 graduate of Linton Stockton High School, a graduate of U.S. Air Force training and an Air Force reservist, and retired from Peabody Coal Company. Tony enjoyed mowing, socializing at the Elks Club and spending time with his family and beloved wife Karen. He was a member of the Linton American Legion Post # 22, Linton Elks Post # 866, the Linton Moose, and the UMWA Local 1410.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Little John.
Survivors include his wife of twenty two years Karen, two daughters, Tabitha Dougherty (Bill) of Washington, IN. and Jodi Gaither (Troy) of Linton, IN., one son, Jason Talley (Erin King) of Dugger, IN., one brother Frank Rode Jr. (Sonja) of Sullivan, IN., and two sisters, Judy Nichols (Gary) of Franklin, IN, and Linda Nolan of Linton, IN., eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Carmel.
A graveside service will be held at Dugger Cemetery in Dugger, IN Monday, August 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM with David Ball officiating. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Linton American Legion. Funeral services were entrusted to Newkirk’s Funeral Home.
